Built in 1920 as a private yacht for Fred Baxter; launched as “KATEDNA”.
She was designed by Ted Geary, and was the first boat built by N.J.Blanchard Boat Co. in Seattle on Lake Union. RED JACKET is constructed of cedar, oak, teak & spruce. She sailed to the South Sea Islands & Australia in the 1920s. In 1931 her name was changed to RED JACKET. In 1942 she was painted entirely gray & spent the WWll years as a Naval sub snooper out of Friday Harbor.
After the war she resumed racing and remained in Seattle until 1958. In 1958, RED JACKET came to Tacoma and the city has been her homeport ever since. Although a non chartering private yacht today, RED JACKET maintains a busy schedule of Wooden Boat Shows, rendezvous & races.
