Built in Biloxi, Mississippi by Jack Covacivich in 1927. Her original design was optimal for a shrimp and oyster schooner. Several years later she was fitted for a private yacht and renamed the HELEN. During WWII she was put into service by USCG as a sail training vessel and a minesweeper because of her very sturdy wooden hull.
Years after WWII, HELEN was sold back to the private yacht arena and renamed the LAVENGRO. She operated out of Hawaii as a charter ship until 2003 when she found a new home in the Puget Sound as a charter ship.
The schooner Lavengro is a member of American Sail Training Association or ASTA. Lavengro does daysails, overnight or weekly, she has accommodations for four passengers overnight and six passengers on daysails.
She is now docked in Brownville and is currently sailing there. Free daysails will begin March 7th, free sails will be every Sunday monthly, donations will be accepted.
